Reminissit

Privacy Policy

Effective August 23, 2026 · Last updated August 23, 2026

Reminissit exists to hold recordings of people's voices. That is unusually sensitive material, and this policy is written to tell you plainly what we do with it — including the things we can't promise.

This policy applies to reminissit.com and to the Reminissit mobile application (together, the "Service"), operated by Reminissit LLC ("Reminissit," "we," "us").

1.Information we collect

Information you give us

Information about people who don't have accounts

A central feature of the Service is that a Keeper can record a family member — a Storyteller — who never creates an account. In that case, the Keeper provides that person's name and relationship, and records their voice. We hold that information on the Keeper's instruction. Section 6 explains the consent obligations this creates.

Information collected automatically

We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not run third-party advertising or tracking pixels, and we do not sell personal information.

2.How we use information

We do not use your recordings to train machine learning models, and we do not license, sell, or share them with anyone outside the family vault they belong to, except as described in Section 4.

3.What we can and cannot see

Reminissit is not end-to-end encrypted. Your recordings are encrypted in transit and encrypted at rest by our storage provider, and access is restricted to the members of your vault. But we hold the keys, which means our systems — and, in narrow circumstances, authorized personnel — are technically capable of accessing your recordings.

We've chosen this deliberately rather than by omission. End-to-end encryption is incompatible with the way Reminissit works: passwordless sign-in, sharing across multiple family members, account recovery when someone loses their phone, and transcription and search. A vault that no one can recover is a vault that can be lost forever, and for irreplaceable recordings we consider permanent loss the greater risk.

In practice, we access recording content only when you ask us to (for example, to help recover something), when we're required to by law, or when necessary to investigate a credible report of abuse. We do not browse vaults.

If end-to-end encryption is a requirement for you, Reminissit is not the right product, and we'd rather tell you that here than have you find out later.

4.Service providers

We use a small number of vendors to run the Service. They process data on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

We may also disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or valid legal process, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect someone's safety. Where we're legally permitted to notify you first, we will.

5.Storage, retention, and deletion

Recordings are stored on servers located in the United States. We retain your content for as long as your vault is active.

To delete your account, use the in-app setting or email hello@reminissit.com.

6.Consent to record

Recording someone's voice requires their agreement, and in some jurisdictions it requires it by law.

If you record another person through Reminissit — including a family member who does not have an account — you are responsible for making sure that person understands they are being recorded, that the recording will be stored by Reminissit, and that it may be shared with other family members you invite. You must stop recording and delete the recording if they ask you to.

If you believe a recording of you is stored in Reminissit without your consent, contact hello@reminissit.com and we will act on it.

7.Voice and biometric information

Reminissit stores voice recordings as audio. We do not create voiceprints, we do not perform speaker identification or voice authentication, and we do not use recordings to generate synthetic speech. If we ever introduce a feature that would process voice data as a biometric identifier, we will obtain separate consent beforehand as required under applicable law, including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act, and comparable state statutes.

8.Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. A Keeper may record a child family member; where that occurs, the Keeper is responsible for obtaining the consent of that child's parent or legal guardian. If you believe we hold information about a child collected without such consent, contact us and we will delete it.

9.Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, these rights arise under the GDPR. If you are a California resident, they arise under the CCPA as amended.

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA, and we do not discriminate against anyone for exercising their rights.

To make a request, email hello@reminissit.com. We'll respond within the time your jurisdiction requires, and within 30 days at the latest.

10.Security

We encrypt data in transit and at rest, restrict access to vault contents through row-level database policies, issue short-lived signed URLs for audio access, and require one-time codes for sign-in rather than passwords. No system is perfectly secure, and we don't claim otherwise. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

11.International transfers

We operate from the United States, and our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where we transfer personal information out of the EEA or UK, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism.

12.Changes to this policy

We'll update this page when our practices change, and revise the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your recordings, we'll notify you by email before it takes effect.
